लौह अयस्क से स्टील बनाते समय जो अभिक्रिया होती है, वह आयरन (II ) ऑक्साइड का कार्बोन मोनोऑक्सीडे के द्वारा उपचयन है एवं इससे धात्विक लौह एवं `CO_(2)` मिलते है।
`FeO(s) + CO(g) ltimplies Fe(s) +CO_(2)(g)`,
`K_(p)=0.265 "atm"` at 1050 K
1050 K पर CO एवं `CO_(2)` के साम्य पर आंशिक दाब क्यों होंगे? यदि उनके प्रारंभिक आंशिक दाब क्रमश: है-
`P_(CO)=1.4` atm एवं `P_(CO_(2)) = 0.80` atm

`Q_(p) = (P_(CO_(2)))/(P_(CO)) = 0.80/1.4=0.571`
`therefore Q_(p) gt K_(P)(0.265)` इसलिए अभिकिरिया पश्च (Backward) दिशा में होंगी।
इस अभिक्रिया में `CO_(2)` का आंशिक दाब घटेगा तथा CO का आंशिक दाब बढ़ेगा।
साम्यावस्था पर,
`P_(CO_(2)) = 0.80-P " atm"` तथा CO का आंशिक दाब बढ़ेगा।
`therefore K_(P) = P_(CO_(2))/(P_(CO))`
`-.265 = (0.80-P)/(1.4+P)`
`0.265 (1.4 + P)= 0.80 -P`
`0.371 + 0.265 P = 0.80 -P`
`1.265 P = 0.429`
`P=0.339 "atm"`
`therefore P_(CO_(2)) = 0.80 - 0.339 = 0.461` atm
`P_(CO) = 1.4 + 0.339=1.739` atm
