माना AB एक खम्बा है जिसकी ऊंचाई h है | सूर्य की ` S _ 1 ` तथा ` S _ 2 ` स्थिति में उन्नयन कोण क्रमशः ` 30 ^(@) ` व ` 60 ^(@) ` है तथा इन स्थितियों में खम्भे की छाया क्रमशः ` BC ` व BD है |

प्रश्नानुसार, CD =BC -BD = 45 मीटर
त्रिभुजन विधि के सूत्र से,
` h = ( CD) /( cot 30 ^(@) - cot 60 ^(@) ) `
` = ( 45 ) /( sqrt3 - ( 1 ) /(sqrt3)) `
` = ( 45 sqrt3) /( 3 - 1 ) = ( 45 xx 1.732)/(2) = 38.97 ` मीटर
