क्राउन काँच `(n = 3//2)` से बने एक पतले उत्तल लेन्स की फोकस दूरी `f` है जब इसे अपवर्तनांक 4/3 एवं 5/3 वाले दो भिन्न-भिन्न द्रवों में रखकर मापा जाता है, तब फोकस दूरियाँ क्रमश: `f_(1)` एवं `f_(2)` है | फोकस दूरियाँ के बीच सही सम्बन्ध है :
A. `f_(1) = f_(2) lt 2`
B. `f_(1) gt f` और `f_(2)` ऋणात्मक हो जाता है
C. `f_(2) gt f` और `f_(1)` ऋणात्मक हो जाता है
D. `f_(1) एवं `f_(2)` दोनों ऋणात्मक हो जाते है |

लेन्स मेकर सूत्र से
`(1)/(f_(1))=((3//2)/(4//3)-1)((1)/(R_(1))-(1)/(R_(2)))=(1)/(8)((1)/(R_(1))-(1)/(R_(1)))`
`(1)/(f_(2))=((3//2)/(5//3)-1)((1)/(R_(1))-(1)/(R_(2)))=-(1)/(10)((1)/(R_(1))-(1)/(R_(1)))`
`(1)/(f)=((3)/(2)-1)((1)/(R_(1))-(1)/R_(2))=(1)/(2)((1)/(R_(1))-(1)/(R_(2)))`
`therefore f_(1) = 4f ` तथा `f_(2) = -5f` .
सैद्धान्तिक : यदि लेन्स को सघन माध्यम में डुबाया जायेगा तो फोकस दूरी का चिन्ह विपरीत हों जायेगा | यदि लेन्स को विरल माध्यम में डुबाया जायेगा तो फोकस दूरी का चिन्ह वही रहेगा तथा फोकस दूरी बढ़ जाएगी |
