नदियाँ के जल में मिट्टी कोलॉइडी अवस्था में रहती है| जब लवण युक्त समुद्री जल नदी के जल में मिलता है तो मिट्टी के कोलॉइडी कण स्कन्दित होकर नीचे बैठ जाते है तथा डेल्टा का निर्माण करते है |
