सुहागा (borax) के विलयन में फीनॉलफ्थेलीन विलयन की 2 बूंदे डालने पर गुलाबी रंग आ जाता है। इस विलयन में ग्लिसरॉल मिलाने पर यह गुलाबी रंग गायब हो जाता है जो गर्म करने पर पुनः आ जाता है।
