There are many web service providers that started like Yahoo, MSN and Google that started off with email or search engine but today provides a banquet of messaging services like email, chat, instant messaging, conferencing etc.

  • Yahoo which began as an app to send and receive emails later joined with JFAX communications and offered various services like file transfer, webcam hosting etc.
  • MSN’s tie-up with Yahoo gave users of both services the ability to communicate via voice as well, a feature that up to now has been restricted to users within each service.
  • Google which has already launched several services is now working on bringing together the functions of several standalone apps.
