नाभिक के सम्भावित द्रव्यमान (गणना द्वारा प्राप्त द्रव्यमान mc) एवं वास्तविक द्रव्यमान (ma) के अन्तर को द्रव्यमान क्षति कहते है। इसे ∆m से व्यक्त करते हैं।

∴ ∆m = mc - ma

या ∆m = [Z mp + (A - Z) mn] - m
