Best answer
Assume the weight of each oxide is 100g.

25.8 g of oxygen reacts with 74.2 g of metal.
1 g of oxygen reacts with `=(1xx74.2)/(25.8)`
= 1.437 g of metal
`:.` The ratio of weight of the metal combining with fixed weight of oxygen in the two oxides is `2.87:1.437=2:1`(apprpx)
