India is called a secular state because there is no discrimination of religions by the government or the Constitution. According to it, the government cannot give special rights to any religion. India is a democracy and like every democratic country has a rule book called Constitution. This Constitution was made and approved by Indians. The Constitution declares India as a secular state.
