`CH_(3)CH_(2) underset( " Or Acidified " K_(2)Cr_(2)O_(7)+"Heat") overset("Alkaline " KMnO_(4)+ "Heat")toCH_(3)COOH+H_(2)O`
Here ethanol is converted into ethanoic acid in the presence of oxidising agents ( such as `KMnO_(4) or K_(2)Cr_(2)O_(7)`) , Thus , since the conversion involves the addition of oxygen to ethanol , it is an oxidation reaction .
