Water in a canal 5.4 m wide and 1.8 m deep is following with a speed of `25 km//hr` How much area can it irriagae in 40 munutes if 10 cm of standing watr is required for irrigation?

Width of canal =5.4 m
Height of canal =1.8 m
In one hour water is moving up to 25 km =25000m
We treat it as the length of canal
Volume of water in canal in 1 hour `=(25000xx5.4xx1.8)m^(3)`
volume of water in canal in 60 munutes =243000 `m^(3)`
volume of water in canal in 40 minutes =`(243000)/(60)xx40m^(3)`
=162000`m^(3)`
This water can irrigate a field up to the height of 10cm =0.1 m
Volume =area `xx` height
162000=area `xx` 0.1
Area of field =`(162000)/(1000)m^(2) = 1620000km^(2)`
`=(1620000)/(10000)` hectare area can irrigate.
