हम जानते है की दीर्घवृत्त का समीकरण
`(x^(2))/(a^(2)) + (y^(2))/(b^(2)) = 1 " "(a gt b)" "...(i)`
दिया है : दीर्घवृत्त की नाभियाँ `(pm ae, 0) = (pm4, 0) rArr ae = 4`
तथा उत्केन्द्रता ` e = (1)/(3)`
अब `ae = 4 rArr a ""(1)/(3) = 4 rArr a = 12 rArr a^(2) = 144`
a का यह मान `b^(2) = a^(2)(1-e^(2))` में रखने पर
`b^(2) = 144(1-(1)/(9)) = 144 xx (8)/(9) = 128`
अब `a^(2)` व `b^(2)` के ये मान समीकरण (i) में रखने पर,
`(x^(2))/(144) + (y^(2))/(128) = 1," "` यही दीर्घवृत्त का अभीष्ट समीकरण है |
