3. In this, the total amount of energy does not remain constant.

4. Example : Hot water kept in an open beaker.

Isolated system :

1. An isolated system cannot exchange matter with the surroundings.

2. It cannot exchange energy with the surroundings.

3. In this, the total amount of energy remains constant.

4. Example : Hot water kept in a thermos flask.
