Correct Answer - C
Metals are usually oxidized by oxidizing acids such an nitric acid. Similar reaction is shown by nonmetals:
`Cu +4HNO_(3) rarr Cu(NO_(3))_(2) +2NO_(2)+2H_(2)O`
`C+4HNO_(3)rarr H_(2)CO_(3) +4NO_(2) +H_(2)O`
Some metals give off hydrogen with dilute acids while nonmetals never give off hydrogen. Metals form ionic oxides with oxygen while nonmetals usually form covalent oxides with oxygen.
