स्थिर दाब तथा स्थिर आयतन पर विशिष्ट ऊष्मा `C_(p)` तथा `C_(v)` है, यह पाया जाता है की हाइड्रोजन के लिये `C_(p) - C_(v) = a`, नाइट्रोजन के लिये `C_(p) - C_(v) = b.a` तथा b के बीच का सही सम्बन्ध होगाः
A. `a = 28b`
B. `a = (1)/(14)b`

`C_(v) = Mc_(v)` तथा `C_(p) = Mc(p)`
`therefore M(c_(p) -c_(v)) = C_(p) - C_(v) = R`
अथवा `c_(p) -c_(v) = (R)/(M)`
`because c_(p) - c_(v) = (R)/(2) = alpha`
हाइड्रोजन गैस के लिये, M = 2
`therefore c_(p) - c_(v) = (R)/(2) = alpha`
तथा नाइट्रोजन गैस के लिये, M = 28
`therefore c_(p) - c_(v) = (R)/(28) = b`
अतः `(a)/(b) = (R//2)/(R//28) = 14`
अथवा a = 14b
