पॉयसन अनुपात `sigma=(Deltar//r)/(DeltaL//L)`
यहाँ `(DeltaL)/(L)=4.0xx10^(-3)" तथा "sigma=0.20`
`:.(Deltar)/( r )=sigma(DeltaL)/(L)=0.20xx4.0xx10^(-3)=0.8xx10^(-3)`
माना छड़ का प्रारम्भिक आयतन V तथा विकृत अवस्था में आयतन `V+DeltaV` है | तब,
`V=pir^(2)L" "...(i)`
तथा `V+DeltaV=pi(r-Deltar)^(2)xx(L+DeltaL)" "...(ii)`
समीकरण (i) को समीकरण (ii) से घटाने पर व अल्प पदों को छोड़ने पर
`DeltaV=pir^(2)DeltaL-2pirDeltarL.`
`:.(DeltaV)/(V)=(DeltaL)/(L)-2(Deltar)/(r)=(4.0xx10^(-3))-2(0.8xx10^(-3))`
`=2.4xx10^(-3)`
आयतन में प्रतिशत परिवर्तन
`=(DeltaV)/(V)xx100=(2.4xx10^(-3))xx100=0.24.`
