किसी नाली में प्रवाहित द्रव का क्रांतिक वेग ` ( v_ c )` नली की त्रिज्या (r ), द्रव के घनत्व ` ( rho ) ` तथा द्रव के श्यानता गुणांक ` (eta) ` पर निर्भर करता है | विमीय विधि से इनके बिच सम्बन्ध ज्ञात कीजिये |

अथवा ` v _ c = kr ^(a) rho ^(b) eta ^(c ) `
जहाँ k विमहीन नियतांक है | हम जानते है कि -
` [v_c] = [ LT ^( - 1 ) ] " " [r] = [L] `
` [rho ] = [ML ^( - 3 ) ] " " [eta] = [ML ^( -1 ) T ^( - 1 ) ] `
अतः समीकरण (1 ) को विमीय रूप में लिखने पर,
` [LT^( -1) ] = [ L] ^(a) [ ML ^( - 3 ) ]^(b) [ ML ^( - 1 ) T ^( - 1) ]^(c) `
अथवा ` [LT^( -1) ] = [ L] ^(a) [ ML ^( - 3 ) ]^(b) [ ML ^( - 1 ) T ^( - 1) ]^(c) `
दोनों ओर की विमाओं की तुलना करने पर,
` b + c = 0 , a - 3 b - c = 1 , - c = - 1 `
हल करने पर,
` a = - 1, b = - 1 ` तथा c =1
a, b, c के मान समीकरण (1) में रखने पर,
` v _ c = k * r ^( - 1 ) rho ^( - 1 ) eta ^( 1 ) `
अथवा ` v _ c = ( k eta ) /( r rho ) ` यही अभीष्ट सम्बन्ध है |
