Correct Answer - D
The melting point of an aliphatic carboxylic acid containing an even number of carbon atoms is higher than the next higher homologue containing odd number of carbon atoms. In this way the M.P. of aliphatic follow a regular pattern but not vary smoothly. Carboxylic acid reduced by HI in presence of red P at 473K.
