Find the co-ordinates of point P if P divides the line segment joining the points A (-1, 7) and B (4, -3) in the ratio 2 : 3.

Let the co-ordinates of point P be (x, y) and A (x1, y1) B (x2, y2) be the given points.

Here, x1 = -1, y1 = 7, x2 = 4, y2 = -3, m = 2, n = 3

∴ By section formula,

The co-ordinates of point P are (1, 3).
