एक प्रिज्म के पदार्थ का अपवर्तनांक `sqrt2` एव प्रिज्म-कोण `60^(@)` है। अल्पतम विचलन की स्थति में ज्ञात कीजिए:
(i) अल्पतम विचलन कोण, (ii) आपतन कोण, (iii) अपवर्तन कोण तथा (iv) निर्गत कोण।

प्रिज्म की पदार्थ का अपवर्तनांक
`n=(sin((A+delta_(m))/(2)))/(sin((A)/(2)))`
(i) प्रश्नानुसार `A=60^(@),n=sqrt2,delta_(m)=`?
`thereforesqrt2=(sin((60^(@)+delta_(m))/(2)))/(sin((60^(@))/(2)))`
अथवा `sin((60^(@)+delta_(m))/(1))=sqrt2xxsin30^(@)=sqrt2xx1/2=(1)/(sqrt2).`
`therefore(60^(@)+delta_(m))/(2)=45^(@)[becausesin45^(@)=1//sqrt2]`
अथवा `delta_(m)=90^(@)-60^(@)=30^(@).`
(ii) आपतन कोण `i=(A+delta_(m))/(2)=(60^(@)+30^(@))/(2)=45^(@).`
(iii) अपवर्तन कोण `r=A//2=30^(@)`
निर्गत कोण = आपतन कोण `45^(@).`
