समांग माध्यम में किसी तरंग का तरंगाग्र तरंग के संचरण की दिशा के लम्बवत होता है । तरंगाग्र विभिन्न आकृतियो के हो सकते है । यदि माध्यम में किरणें समान्तर ऋजुरेखीय है , तो तरंगाग्र समतल होगा । यदि माध्यम में तरंगे एक बिन्दो बिन्दु -स्त्रोत से उत्पंन हो रही है , तो तरंगाग्र गोलीय (spherical) होगा । यदि माध्यम में तरंगे एक रेखीय - स्त्रोत से उत्पंन हो रही है , तो तरंगाग्र बेलनाकार (cylinderical) होगा ।
