एक धातु के पृष्ठ के लिए कार्य फलन 4.2 eV है । 2000Å तरंगदैर्घ्य के प्रकाश द्वारा अधिकतम गतिज ऊर्जा के इलेक्ट्रॉनों के उत्सर्जन को रोकने के लिए कितना विभान्तर आवश्यक होगा ? धातु के लिए देहली तरंगदैर्घ्य की गणना कीजिए ।

यदि धातु का कार्य फलन W है , तो आइन्सटीन के प्रकाशवैधुत समीकरण के अनुसार

`E_(k)=hv-W=(hc)/(lambda)-W`
यदि निरोधी विभव का मान `V_(0)` है , तो `E_(k)=eV_(0)`
`:. eV_(0)=(hc)/(lambda)-W`
`V_(0)=(hc)/(lambda e)-(W)/(e)`
`=(6.62xx10^(-34)xx3xx10^(8))/(2000xx10^(-10)xx1.6xx10^(-19))-4.2`
`=6.2-4.2 = 2 V`
परन्तु `W=(hc)/(lambda_(0))`
`:. lambda_(0)=(hc)/(W)=(6.62xx10^(-34)xx3xx10^(8))/(4.2xx1.6xx10^(-19))`
`=2.755xx10^(-7) m = 2755 ` Å.
