Statement - 1 : When ultraviolet light is incident on a photoncell , its stopping potential is `V_(0)` and the maximum kinetic energy of the photoelectrons is `K_(max)` when the altraviolet light is replaces by X- rays both `V_(0) and K_(max)`increase
Statement - 2 : photoelectrons are emitted with speeds ranging from zero to a maximum value because of the range of frequencies present in the incident light
A. Statement - 1 is true , statement - 2 is true , statement - 2 is the correct explanation of statement - 1
B. Statement - 1 is true , statement - 2 is true , statement - 2 is not the correct explanation of statement - 1

Best answer
Correct Answer - D
we know that
`_(e) V_(0) = k_(max) = hv - b `
where `phi` is the work fuction
hence as v increases (note that frequency of x- rays is greater then that of `U V` rays ) , both `V_(0) and k_(max) ` increases so statement - 1 is correct
