Correct Answer - D
Freon, a chlorofluorocarbon `(CFC)`. Is sed as a refrigerant `CF_(2)Cl_(2))`. On exposure to `UV` rays in the upper part of atmosphere, Freon dissociates to give free chlorine radicals, which result in depletion of `O_(3)` layer.
`Cl_(2)CF_(2)(g)overset(hv)(rarr).^(.)Cl(g)+.^(.)C ClF_(2)(g)`
`Cl(g)+O_(3)(g)rarrClO.^(.)(g)+O_(2)(g)`
`ClO^(.)overset(slow)(rarr)Cl^(.)+O^(.)`
`Cl^(.)(g)+O^(.)(g)rarr.^(.)Cl(g)+O_(2)(g)`
