The oxidant pyridinium chlorochromate `(PC C)` , made by mixing equimolar amounts of `CrO_(3),HCl` and pyridine , is used to oxididize a `1^(@)` alcohol to an aldehyde. It is soluble in `CH_(2)Cl_(2)` and other stable to further oxidation.
