1.  Pollen release and stigma receptivity are not synchronized, i.e., either the anther matures earlier or stigma.

2.  The anther and the stigma are placed at different positions so that pollens cannot come in contact with the stigma of the same flower.

(3) Certain plants produce unisexual flowers, i.e., male and female flowers are present on different plants.
