एक खगोलीय (astronomical) दूरदर्शक के अभिदृश्यक और नेत्रिका की फोकस-दूरियाँ क्रमशः 100 cm और 10 cm है | दूरदर्शक की लंबाई तथा आवर्धन-क्षमता निकले जब प्रतिबिंब (i) स्पष्ट दृष्टि की न्यूनतम दुरी पर तथा (ii) अनंत पर बनता हो |

(i) जब प्रतिबिंब स्पष्ट दृष्टि की न्यूनतम दूरी पर बनता है-
(a) दूरदर्शक की लंबाई `L = f_(0) = (Df_(e))/(D+f_(e))`
यहाँ, `f_(0) = 100 cm, f_(e) = 10 cm` तथा `D = 25 cm. `
`therefore L = 100 + (25 xx 10)/(25 + 10) = 100 + (250)/(35) = 100 + 7.14 = 107.14 cm`
तथा (b) आवर्धन-क्षमता `M = (f_(0))/(f_(e))(1+(f_(e))/(D))`
` = -(100)/(10)(1+(10)/(25))=-(10xx35)/(25)=-14`
(ii) जब प्रतिबिंब अनंत पर बनता है-
(a) दूरदर्शक की लंबाई `L = f_(0) +f_(e) = 100 + 10 = 110 cm`
तथा (b) आवर्धन-क्षमता `M = -(f_(0))/(f_(e))=-(100)/(10)=10`
अतः दूरदर्शक की लंबाई = 107 cm तथा 110 cm एवं आवर्धन-क्षमता = -14 तथा -10.
