The molecules that can have an effect on a living organism are called bioactive molecuies.
Examples of bioactive molecules are :
(i) Cyclosporin-A : lt is used as an immunosuppressive agent in organ-transplant patients. It is produced by Trichoderma polysporum.
(ii) Statins : Statins are produced by the yeast Monascus purpureus and have been commercialized as cholesterol-lowering agents.
