`K_(2)Cr_(2)O_(7) + conc. H_(2)SO_(4)`. Hot alkaline `KMnO_(4)` and conc. `HNO_(3)` will all oxidise toluene to benzoic acid while `CrO_(3)` in `CH_(3)(CO_(2)O)` (mild reagent) will oxidise toluene to benzaldehyde.
