Fluorine exhibits only - 1 oxidation state whereas other halogens exhibit +1, +3, + 5 and +7 oxidation states also. Why is it so?

Fluorine has no d-orbital for excitation of electrons and it is most electronegative element. Hence it shows oxidation state of -1 only.
