Best answer
The electronic configuration of cerium (Ce) is `[Xe]4f^(1)5d^(1)6s^(2)`. BY losing four electrons, it acquires a stable electronic configuration of noble gas elements Xe. Therefore, it forms `Ce^(4+)` ion in aqueous solution.
