A solid conducting sphere of radius R is surrounded by a concentric metallic shell of inner radius 2R and outer radius 3R. The shell is earthed. The inner sphere is connected to a switch S by a thin conducting wire through a small hole in the shell. By closing the switch S, the inner sphere is connected to a distant conducting sphere of radius R having charge Q. Find the charge that flows to earth through wire AB.

Correct Answer - (a). (i) `E=0`
(ii) E=0, (iii) `E=(kQ)/(x^(2))`
(b). (i). `V=(Kq)/(2R);, (ii).V=(Kq)/(2R), (iii) V=(Kq)/(x)`
(c). (i). `V=(Kq)/(x^(2));V=Kq((1)/(R)-(1)/(x))`
(ii) `E=0;V=0`
(iii). `E=0;V=0`
(d) `-(Kq^(2))/(2R)`
(e) zero
(f) (i) `E=(Kq)/(x^(2));V=(Kq)/(4R)-(Kq)/(x)+(Kq)/(R)`
(ii). `E=0;V=(Kq)/(4R)`
