GNU : The GNU Project was launched in 1983 by Richard Stallman of Free Software Foundation (FSF) to develop a complete Unix-like operating system which is free software the GNU operating system.
Unix-like operating systems are built from a collection of libraries, applications and developer tools, plus a kernel to allocate resources and to talk to the hardware. GNU is often used with the Linux kernel.
BOSS is a free Indian Operating System based on GNU/LINUX developed by C-DAC(Center for Development of Advance Computing). BOSS makes it easier for a Microsoft Windows user to shift to GNU/LINUX platform which is there with variant features. Currently BOSS GNU/Linux Desktop is available in many Indian Languages which also enables the non-English literate users in the country to be exposed to Information and communication technology and to use the computer more effectively.
