Justify that the following reaction is a redox reaction:

Fe2O3(s) + 3CO(g)  2Fe(s) + 3CO2(g)

In above reaction, oxidation number of Fe decreases from +3 to zero, which shows that Fe2O3 is reduced to Fe and the oxidation number of C increases from +2 to +4, which shows that CO is oxidised to CO2. Hence, it is a redox reaction.
