Nylon is made by the polymerization of adipic acid (1, 6-hexanedioic acid) and hexamethylene diamine (1, 6-diamino hexane).

It is obtained by condensation polymerization.
Nylon is used in making the bristles of brushes, carpets, and fabrics.

Properties of nylon 6, 6:

  • Nylon 6, 6 is a linear condensation polymer with high molecular mass (12000 u to 50000 u).
  • It possesses high tensile strength.
  • It does not soak in water.

Uses of nylon 6, 6: It is used for

  • making sheets,
  • bristles for brushes,
  • surgical sutures,
  • textile fabrics, etc.
