Nylon is made by the polymerization of adipic acid (1, 6-hexanedioic acid) and hexamethylene diamine (1, 6-diamino hexane).

It is obtained by condensation polymerization.
Nylon is used in making the bristles of brushes, carpets, and fabrics.
Properties of nylon 6, 6:
- Nylon 6, 6 is a linear condensation polymer with high molecular mass (12000 u to 50000 u).
- It possesses high tensile strength.
- It does not soak in water.
Uses of nylon 6, 6: It is used for
- making sheets,
- bristles for brushes,
- surgical sutures,
- textile fabrics, etc.
