In an x-ray tube, electrons striking a target are brought to rest, causing x-rays to be emitted. In a particular x-ray tube, the maximum frequency of the emitted continuum x-ray spectrum is fo. If the voltage across the tube is doubled, the maximum frequency is

Best answer

The correct option is: (E) 2fo

Explanation:

The energy of the electrons is the kinetic energy given by W = Vq = K. Doubling the voltage doubles the energy of the electrons. The emitted x–ray energy coming from the electron energy is given by E = hf and with double the energy there should be double the frequency.
