The critical angle for a glass-air interface is sin-1 5/8 . A ray of unpolarized monochromatic light in air is incident on the glass. What is the polarizing angle?

Data : θc = sin-1 \(\cfrac58\)

∴ sin θc = \(\cfrac58\)

∴ n = \(\cfrac1{sin \,θ_c}\) = \(\cfrac85\) = 1.6

Also, n = tan θB

∴ θB = tan-1 n

∴ The polarizing angle, θB = tan-1 1.6 = 58°
