The Mughal style of painting developed and achieved a greater level of sophistication under successive Mughal rulers such as Akbar, Jahangir and Shah Jahan. The rulers patronized numerous artists who executed beautiful miniatures incorporating varied themes and styles. This style of painting came to be defined for its fineness, aesthetics and imperial themes was called the Mughal miniature style of painting.
