  • Radioactivity is used to produce electric power.
  • Uses of Radioactivity:
  • Americium-241:
    • It is a famous alpha emitter that is used basically for domestic smoke detectors in the United States.
    • The alpha particles provide by the Americium sample ionize the air in the chamber of the smoke detector.
    • It causes a drop in current causing the alarm to go off when smoke enters the chamber.
    • Although Alpha particles have a short-range, they are devastating when in close contact.
    • when alpha emitters come in close contact with tissue and the therefore used in assassination attempts by radiation poisoning.
  • Additional Uses of radioactivity:
    • It is used in domestic smoke detectors.
    • It is also utilized to sterilize medical instruments.
    • Sometimes electromagnetic radiation uses to diagnose(Such as X-ray,) and treat diseases.
