  • Robert Clive introduced the Dual administration after the Battle of Buxar(1764).
  • The characteristics of the dual administration were as follows-
  1. Diwani rights/ Fiscal Revenue was kept under the company.
  2. Nizamat/Administration of criminal justice was kept under Nawab.
  • Dual Government created a lot of confusion and hence Warren Hasting abolished dual Government with the introduction of Regulating Act,1773.
  • The dual Government comes into action after the Treaty of Allahabad (1765) which was signed between Robert Clive and the Nawab of Awadh and Mughal emperor Shah Alam II.
