An electric lamp of 110 Ω, a toaster of resistance 60 Ω, and a water filter of resistance 400 Ω are connected in parallel to a 220 V source. Find the total value of current flowing through all appliances?

Correct Answer - Option 1 : 6.4 Amp

The current answer is 6.4 Amp.

Resistance of electric lamp = 100 ohm       

Resistance of a toaster = 60 ohm       

Resistance of a water filter = 400 ohm       

Potential difference = 220 volt       

Total resistance of the three appliances in parallel = 1/R = 1/R1 + 1/R2 + 1/R3    

= 1/100 + 1/60 + 1/400            

1/R = 35/1200 = 7/240        

= 240/7 = 34.28 ohm

As we know that,

Ohm's Law, V = I x R

I = V/R 

I = 220/34.28 = 6.4 A
