Parshvanatha: 

  • Parshvanatha, also known as Parshva and Parasnath, was the 23rd of 24 Tirthankaras of Jainism in Varanasi. He is the only Tirthankara who gained the title of Kalīkālkalpataru.  
  • His father’s name was Ashvaseen and his mother’s name was Vamdevi. King Ashwesen was the king of Varanasi.
  • Parsvnath adds four Mahavrut (truth, unseen, non-violence, non-violence) in Jainism. Parshvanatha’s symbol was a Snake.

Rishabhanatha:

  • Rishabhanatha, (Sanskrit: “Lord Bull”) the first of the 24 Tirthankaras (“Ford-Makers,” i.e., saviors) of Jainism, a religion of India. His name comes from the series of 14 auspicious dreams that his mother had, in which a bull (Rishabha) appeared, before his birth. He is also known as Adinatha (“Lord of the Beginning”) and is portrayed by Jain legend as having lived many millions of years ago. He was born in the city of Ayodhya.

Mahavira:

  • Mahavira, also known as Vardhamana, was the 24th Tirthankara of Jainism. He was the spiritual successor of the 23rd Tirthankara Parshvanatha. Mahavira was born in the early part of the 6th century BCE into a royal Jain family in Bihar. 
  • Mahavira taught that observance of the vows of ahimsa (non-violence), Satya (truth), asteya (non-stealing), brahmacharya (chastity),                    and aparigraha (non-attachment) are necessary for spiritual liberation. Mahavira’s symbol was a lion.

Jaina:

  • Shantinatha was the sixteenth Jain Tirthankara of the present age (Avasarpini). Shantinatha was born to King Vishvasena and Queen Aiira at Hastinapur in the Ikshvaku dynasty. Shantinatha’s symbol was a Deer.
