Correct Answer - Option 3 : Yukawa

The correct answer is Yukawa.

  • Meson, any member of a family of subatomic particles composed of a quark and an antiquark.
  • Mesons are sensitive to the strong force, the fundamental interaction that binds the components of the nucleus by governing the behaviour of their constituent quarks.
  • More than 200 mesons have been produced and characterized in the intervening years, most in high-energy particle-accelerator experiments.
  • All mesons are unstable, with lifetimes ranging from 10−8 seconds to less than 10−22 seconds.
  • They also vary widely in mass, from 140 megaelectron volts (MeV; 106 eV) to nearly 10 gigaelectron volts (GeV; 109 eV).
  • Mesons serve as a useful tool for studying the properties and interactions of quarks.
  • Predicted theoretically in 1935 by the Japanese physicist Yukawa Hideki.

  • Anderson-
    • By studying the tracks of cosmic ray particles in a cloud chamber, in 1932 Carl Anderson discovered a positively-charged particle with a mass seemingly equal to that of an electron.
    • Carl Anderson's article was the first antiparticle proven by experiment and was named a "positron".
  • Glenn T. Seaborg-
    • American nuclear chemist knew for his work on isolating and identifying transuranium elements (those heavier than uranium).
    • He shared the 1951 Nobel Prize for Chemistry with Edwin Mattison McMillan for their independent discoveries of transuranium elements.
    • Seaborgium was named in his honour, making him the only person for whom a chemical element was named during his lifetime.
  • Soddy and Fajan-
    • Kasimir Fajans is a Polish-American physical chemist who discovered the radioactive displacement law simultaneously with Frederick Soddy of Great Britain.
    • According to this law, when a radioactive atom decays by emitting an alpha particle, the atomic number of the resulting atom is two fewer than that of the parent atom. When a beta particle is emitted, the atomic number is one greater.
