Correct Answer - Option 2 : Fungi

Yeast (Khameer) is an example of fungi.

  • Fungi show a great diversity in morphology and habitat.
  • Yeasts are single-celled organisms.
  • They respire anaerobically and during this process yield alcohol.
  • They are, therefore, used to make wine and beer.

Bacteria

  • Bacteria are the sole members of the Kingdom Monera.
  • They are the most abundant micro-organisms.
  • Bacteria occur almost everywhere.
  • Hundreds of bacteria are present in a handful of soil.
  • They also live in extreme habitats such as hot springs, deserts, snow, and deep oceans where very few other life forms can survive.

Virus

  • Viruses did not find a place in classification since they are not considered truly ‘living’ if we understand living as those organisms that have a cell structure.
  • Viruses are non-cellular organisms that are characterized by having an inert crystalline structure outside the living cell.
  • Virus means venom or poisonous fluid.

Algae

  • Algae are chlorophyll-bearing, simple, thalloid, autotrophic, and largely aquatic (both fresh water and marine) organisms.
  • They occur in a variety of other habitats: moist stones, soils, and wood.
  • Some of them also occur in association with fungi (lichen) and animals (e.g., on sloth bear).
