Correct Answer - Option 1 : NaHCO3

Concept:

The Fire Extinguishers:

  • The fire extinguishers are designed to put out or control small fires. It is important to use proper fire extinguishers as part of a fire protection plan.

How does fire extinguishable work?

  • Portable fire extinguishers apply an extinguishing agent that will either be used to cool burning fuel or remove oxygen or stop chemical reactions so a fire cannot continue to burn.
  • When the handle of an extinguisher is compressed, it opens an inner canister of high-pressure gas that forces the extinguishing agent from the main cylinder through a siphon tube and out the nozzle.

Types of portable fire extinguishers

Different types of fire extinguishers are designed to fight types of fires. The three most common types of fire extinguishers are:

  • Air pressurized water extinguishers.
  • Carbon Dioxide extinguishers.
  • Dry chemical extinguishers.

Explanation:

Three types of extinguishing agents are used in different types of fire extinguishers- carbon dioxide, dry chemical, and foam water.

  • Carbon dioxide is a compressed gas that is used to prevents combustion by displacing the oxygen in the air surrounding the fire.
  • The dry chemical extinguishers include sodium bicarbonate/ potassium bicarbonate (NaHCO3/KHCO3) and potassium chloride base agent.
  • Foam extinguishers use an aqueous film-forming foam agent that expels a layer of foam when it is discharged through the nozzle.

Here among the given compounds, In fire extinguishers, we use NaHCO3.
