Best answer
Correct Answer - Option 2 : 2860 veh/hr

Concept:

Theoretical maximum capacity is given by,

\(C = \frac{{1000\;V}}{S}\)

Where,

C = is capacity is vehicle/hr

V = speed in km/hr

S = minimum clear distance between two vehicles

∴ S = 0.2 V + 6 ( if V is in kmph )

(or) S = 0.7 v + 6 ( if v is in m/s )

Calculation:

Given,

Velocity (V) = 40 kmph

∵ S = 0.2 V + 6 = 0.2 × 40 + 6 = 14 m

Theoretical Maximum capacity is given by,

\(C = \frac{{1000\;V}}{S}\)

\(C = \frac{{1000\; \times \ 40}}{14}\)

C = 2857.142 Veh/hr ≈ 2860 veh/hr
