  • Sri Dev Suman has not been an editor of ‘Almora Akhbar’.

  • Almora Akhbar was the first and the only letter of Kumaon to be published continuously from 1871 to 1918.
  • Almora newspaper was a contemporary of the leading English newspaper 'Pioneer'.
  • During the long lifespan of 48 years, Almora newspaper was edited by Budhi Ballabh Pant, Munshi Imtiyaz Ali, Jeeva Nand Joshi, Sadanand Sanwal, Vishnu Dutt Joshi, and after 1913 Badridatta Pandey.
  • After Badridatta Pandey became the editor of Almora newspaper in the year 1913, the circulation of the newspaper increased.
  • The credit of linking Almora newspaper with the freedom movement also goes to Badridutt Pandey.
  • It was only after the ban on Almora newspaper that Badridutt Pandey started publishing Shakti.
  • Badridatta Pandey was the most experienced editor of Almora newspaper with a long lifespan the editors of 48 years.

Sri Dev Suman

  • Sri Dev Suman was a social activist from the Tehri District of Uttarakhand.
  • He was born at Jaul village patti Bamund of Tehri Garhwal.
  • When the whole of India was fighting to be free from the rule of the British government, Suman was advocating that Tehri Riyasat be free of the rule of the King of Garhwal.
  • He was a great fan of Gandhi and used non-violence ways for the freedom of Tehri.
  • During his fight with the King of Tehri called Bolanda Badri (speaking Badrinath), he demanded complete independence for Tehri.
  • On 30 December 1943, he had declared as a rebel and arrested by the Tehri kingdom.
  • In jail, Suman was tortured, very heavy cuffs were given to him, pieces of stone were mixed with his food, sand mixed roti was given to him, and many more tortures were applied by the jailer Mohan Singh and other staff.
  • Then he decided to go on a hunger strike. Jail staff tried to give him food and water forcibly, with no success.
  • After being in prison for 209 days, and on hunger strike for 84 days, Sri Dev Suman died on 25 July 1944
  • His dead body was thrown into the Bhilangna River without a funeral.
