Given:

The average of five number = 56.2

The average of first and second number = 78.5

And the average of fourth and fifth number = 45 

Calculation:

Let the number be A, B, C, D and E

Now A + B + C + D + E = (56.2 × 5) = 281

Now, A + B = 78.5 × 2 = 157

Also, D + E = 45 × 2 =90

Now, C = 281 - (A + B) - (D + E)

⇒ C = 281 - 157 - 90

⇒ C = 34

∴ The third number is 34.
