Correct Answer - Option 4 : Rs.1376

Given:

The ratio of the first and second class fares between two stations is 5 ∶ 3

The number of passengers travelling between the two stations by first and second class is 3 ∶ 40

The total amount collected by the passengers travelling between the two stations = Rs 1548

Calculation:

Let the fare of first and second class be 5x and 3x respectively

And, Let the number of passengers travelling between first and second class be 3y and 40y respectively

The total fare collected from the first-class = 5x × 3y = 15xy

The total fare collected from the second-class = 3x × 40y = 120xy

The total fare collected by the passengers in a day = 15xy + 120xy

⇒ 135xy = 1548

⇒ xy = 1548/135 = 172/15

The total fare collected from the second-class = 120xy

⇒ 120 × (172/15)

⇒ 1376

∴ The amount collected from the second class passengers is Rs 1376
