Correct Answer - Option 3 : Constant acceleration

CONCEPT:

Newton's first law of motion:

  • This law states that a body will remain in its state of rest or uniform motion in a straight line unless it is compelled by some external force.
  • The body remains unaccelerated if and only if, the resultant force on it is zero.

EXPLANATION:

  • According to Newton's first law of motion if a force is applied to a body its velocity will change, so the momentum will also change because momentum depends on the velocity.
  • When the applied force is in the direction of motion the speed of the body increases and vice-versa is also true, so the speed may also vary when the force is applied to the body.
  • If the applied force is constant the body will move with constant acceleration. Hence, option 3 is correct.
